considering selling my 1984 300td euro ABS

Hey guys... It's with lots of sadness that I am considering selling my 300TD. I bought the car a little over 2 years ago with the best intentions. I wanted to work on it and make it the best riding car possible.

It's possible I'll hold on to the car but right now I'm just fed up.

I live in Brooklyn, NY. I work on my car on the street. I have been harassed by neighbors and police. I can't keep doing it. I've been having a mechanic do the work but that's getting expensive... It's just not practical anymore.

The car needs
valve adjustment
driver's side guide rod mount
there's a fuel issue with the car that I haven't been able to track down
It's heats up in hot weather.
The dash is cracked.
280,000 miles

The car has
4 new tires (bought them about 6 months ago)
new brakes, motor mounts, UCAs, oil pan, tie rods, probably other things I can't remember right now.

I had issues with vacuum but I fixed the problem. The front passenger side door was leaking. I plugged it and the vacuum is working great. The car has ABS. It's got cold A/C.

Here are some photos here Is my new 1984 300TD turbo a euro car?

Rough estimate of how much the car is worth?

Thanks so much!

Um, what?

Where in Brooklyn do you live that neighbors and the NY Donut Dept actually give a fyck about someone working on their car on the street? Can't say that I've met anyone who cared (other than to compliment me on my car), even when living in a relatively nice part of Manhattan.

Oh yeah, and you're from Brooklyn. Tell the neighbors to gently caress themselves with their object of choice. If you keep the car, I'd recommend Spirit Service on Queens Blvd. and 54th for any work you can't do yourself. The old Armenian guy who owns it is honest, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced.

Too many gentrifiers, breeders, and West Coast HOA-gated-development rejects who could no longer afford Park Slope metastasizing into your area? Sheesh.

Wonder if a nice key scrrrratch down the side of their car would learn 'em. Or just drive up to the skeevy part of Atlantic Ave, bring your toolbox, and go to town. No one will know the difference.

Hmmm. Any of your neighbours work at the DA's office, or perhaps as a whiteshirt member of the NYPD? You're on a bad street.

Why not put an ad in your local paper, or maybe on a supermarket ad board, saying you need to rent a garage or lockup on a daily or weekend basis for occasional work on your car? Someone might be willing to put a roof over your head for some pocket cash.

You found a nice car there. Don't give up without either fighting, or getting creative. Unless in the final analysis you'd rather move on from it.

Ya I went looking for a garage on craigslist. There were plenty of places to store the car but couldn't find anywhere that actually let me do work on it. Plus, this is NY. Whatever I find is going to cost me an arm and a leg unless I want to travel at least an hour away.

I can adjust the valves and check out your fuel system issues. I'm in Whitestone NY.

Have you considered moving to a block where your neighbors aren't officious pricks and/or wannabe suburbanites?

Come on... You live in NYC. You know how expensive it can be to move to a new place.

We're considering moving to Portland, OR actually. We both like the lifestyle there and it's cheap. but it's hard to find jobs in my field out there.

If you won the asshat neighbor lottery, sometimes you have to do what needs to be done.

I got a letter from the city here in CA because I had a 300D in my DRIVEWAY but since it was not in running condition (I didn't have it covered, and the condition was obvious) they said I am not allowed to keep it in my driveway. I was given a deadline to move it or be faced with some fines.

Pretty bad when I cant keep a car I own and paid DMV to non-op in my own driveway.

Sorry for the rant

Hey, at least you have your own driveway. In NYC, you can buy a $2MM house in Brooklyn, and you probably still won't have a driveway

Does Gentrification always take a capital "G"?

The delicious irony is that the cheaper houses in more far-flung parts of Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx (let's not talk about S{t}aten Island, OK?) are more likely to have driveways.
