Hand pump update on Euro OM617

Hey, I have a 1980 w123 with a european 300turbodiesel enginge.
Just noticed that its leaking diesel quite badly from the primer pump somewhere. I think its the Hand pump that is the problem. I read that people change the old white handled hand pump that I have to a updated black handled one. My question is if it will fit on my enginge? I took apart the primer pump and noticed firstly that the end that sticks into the engine block is not similar to the primer pumps i found on ebay. I took off the hand pump and saw that there is no rubber seal on it. its sealed by the metal in the end having a cone-shape. (i hope that makes sense) which is also unlike the updated black hand pumps on ebay.
Is this what the update was? not having a cone-seal, but rather the rubber seal? And again, will it fit on my Euro engine?

Appritiate any response. Thanks

I think the hand pumps are pretty universal in the 616 617 series. The newer ones just screw into the same threaded hole as the old white plastic ones.

X2, I use the same primer pump on my euros as the US spic 240. The only difference is on the Euros you have to take off the two other fuel lines to get to the pump.

Yes, I took a newer black primer pump off a 300TD wagon at the local pick-n-pull. It fit perfectly on my 240D (which had the older style white plastic primer pump).

No leaks, and works much better!

The primer pump doesn't stick into the engine block.

A picture of what you are talking about might help.

The black updated hand pump will fit all primer pumps.

If I had to buy a new one I would only buy a Bocsh Hand Primer:
Bosch Hand Primer has Dual edge Viton® seal:
Hand Primers

A few members have had problems with the copies of the Bosch Hand Primer.
