1985 300SD Windows
I have an '85 300SD, the driver side and right passenger side windows don't work. A couple of times when I have tried the drivers side it has moved a tiny bit. There is current getting to the fuse. I saw a relay referenced somewhere. Does anyone know about this or if there is a relay? I have been away for a while and see many changes in the forum. I am still trying to figure out where some things are.

Classic symptom of a corroded, loose or cracked fuse. The windows are wired left front right rear thru one fuse and the other way thru the other fuse. Replace the fuse 1st. Report back.

There is one relay for all four windows. If any combination of windows work, the relay cannot reasonably be the problem.

Be sure to lift door card up not out so you don't break the plastic tabs. There are some youtube vids that show how to take it apart.

Open a door so that the dome light is illuminated, and operate the window. If the light dims slightly, you have a complete circuit. If it doesn't, the circuit is open somewhere. I had a problem like that on my 300D and one bearing in the motor was frozen. I disassembled and lubed the motor and it has worked fine ever since.

switches
My 2 cents. Have had dirty switch contacts in console cause same problems. Easy to clean w/ rubbing alcohol, take out switches, carefully use small screw driver on side pivots of top cover to loosen. Remove cover - carefull to NOT loose two ball bearings. contacts can be removed and cleaned, placed back. Easier than tearing a door apart..or you could just use other switches to test.

Yes it could be the switch. Easily determined. Swap switches, does the problem move to the other windows? Lets wait to hear what the fuse replacement does.

Thanks for the reply gentlemen,
I am a bit slow getting back to you. I don't live where the car is was just able to check it out last weekend. The fuse and switch are fine. I am open to other ideas. |

Tell us exactly what you did to determine it is not the fuse or the switch.

When I had 2 windows go bad I looked at the Fuse without pullin it out. Later still having the problem I pulled out the Fuse and found that altough the strip was not burned the tip on one end was Corroded/Gone and it was not making contact with the Bracket.
I have also has issues with some of the Switches and had to take the Switches Apart and in My case I scraped the Burned part of the Contacts to bare metal with a small Pocket Knife and re-assembled the Switches with no issues caused by the Switches since then. I had an issue with the Passanger side front Door Window that stopped working and after removing the Door Panel I found that the 2 Screws that held the Motor Wires to the Door Terminal Block were both loose. Tightenig up the Screws cured it. On a 123 Fuse #12 goes to the Power Window Relay and some other components. When that fuse goes all the Windows will not work and a few other Electrical Components connected to the Fuse will also not work. Unfotunately because it is a Power Window System there can be one or more causes to your probem. No one has mentioned the Motor Brushes can be Worn. 13 posts and it appears the OP still hasn't replaced the fuse. You say you have power TO the fuse but do you have power out the other side?

Be sure to pull the fuse and inspect the ends, they can look fine in situ and still be bad.
