They were both Behr radiators but were they both from an MB dealer? Someone observed a while back that the core was different between Behr through MB and Behr for retail. I don't recall for which MB model this was. For kicks, check if the original and replacement radiators have the same row and column count.
In retrospect, it would have been interesting to have the radiators side by side, filled with water and simultaneously drained through the lower hose. Which empties more quickly assuming the same internal capacity. Sixto 87 300D |

Hi Sixto, thanks Too late...unfortunately someone 'stole' the old radiator which was just outside the garage leaning against the wall...you never know in this country. Sorry all evidence is gone! From the outside I can tell they were identical. Same thing. |

EGT's didn't change. Not that I can notice.
But this was expected. Coolant temps don't affect the EGTs very much I fear. Again the question for the community: What are EGTs on your stock 603 engines when you drive 75/80/90 mph on the flat highway? I can't possibly imagine why my EGTs should be different. Martin |

Does the SDL not have a cat or something?

Again my SDL has no cat , no something. I assume there is no restriction in the exhaust.
Can someone tell me what EGTs a stock 603 engine will produce at various highway speeds like 70/80/90 mph? If my EGTs seem to be high then I'd know relative to what basic ECTs for stock engine. Please |

I saw EGT of about 550*F in an '87 300D going 65 mph on level ground. For reference, idle EGT was about 350*F after a freeway run.

Hi Sixto, I'll check specifically on my 603 for the EGTs at 65mph. But I'd say that my experienced EGTs much higher at this speed. My guess is around 700 - 800. Of course the temps must be measured as an average..ideally on a horizontal highway. Slight slopes are influencing the EGTs a lot. Well, then there is a question at what location EGTs were measured in the exhaust...maybe this is influencing the numbers too. Of course the closer you are to the exhaust valve the higher the temps . On my engine the sensor is maybe 1" in the exhaust manifold on cylinder 1 behind cylinder head. I guess the tip of the probe is sticking into the head very close to the exhaust valve. Idle EGTs at 350 - 400 F are normal for me too. I'll attach a couple pictures of probe and gauge under my dash. Martin Last edited by werminghausen; 10-15-2012 at 10:56 PM. |

I want to find out why people think that my EGTs are high (I also think so...) First step would be to know what EGTs a stock engine will produce...before I come to the wrong conclusions. Martin |
