broken terminal on a GP lead...
'79 300td
So I twisted to waste a GP terminal because the nut was fused. I have a plan, but want to hear if anyone thinks its a bad one. The leads are insulated by some sort of bomb-proof nylon, and it goes right down to and into the crimping of the terminal. No way I could re-produce that. So I'm going to take one off a parts car (for sale, incidentally, for $300, in Cape Cod, MA) and splice it as far away from the GP as I can manage, and seal up the splice with liquid e-tape covered again with traditional e-tape. Big questions: will the splice be far enough away to survive engine heat? If it doesn't, will it matter very much? Many thanks! |

I think you will be better off to use some heat shrink tubing, it will make a much neater covering that won't unravel like the tape will. GB makes good heat shrink tubing and I think Home Depot sells it.

Answer
Solder a new terminal on and use heat shrink to seal it.
