here's his official site:

I worked with him to make a tach amp that can work with more aftermarket or gasser tachs - thus opening more options."

You've done your research and I hope your right on the OM617 having acceptable power for your project.
thanks for those links--I was working on pruning the tack sensor and the glow plug relay form the cd harness last nite.

the engine capability- i really dont see what the big deal is. Its not going to be fast enough to please most drivers behind me-Thats just the way it it.

These things got 0m602's in them ( aluminum headed 5 cyl) and as Roy says- they are delicate where as the 617 is a workhorse Monster.

sucess

I was able to get over the hurdle barely unscather on the last fender mould - we had 85 degrees so i knocked out the skin coat yesterday-- and incurred a "gator' in an insignifigant 2 and 1/2 ft area on the flange 90 degree edge.

alligation is a manufacturing screw up that will ruin a project like this, if you made a rubber mould of a lizard-- like a gila monster-then peeled it off and looked at the underside, Thats what a gator is--it is where the gelcoat bubbles up/wrinkles causing patches of voids- a ruined surface. Luckily I saw it happening and went and got the heaters and put the heat to it yesterday evening. you dont want to try doing this under 80 degrees or you're risking an expensive ruined project.
Also discovered that the plastic supply co has doubled the cost of the resin in the last 12 mos so im looking for a alternative supplier so i can get this mould and the fenders done........ looks like playing with the plastics is now become too cost prohibitive. To do good stuff-- you dont go down to the auto parts store and buy bondo brand fiberglass resin because its junk.
Period.

I took the weight of the stock Massive radiator and its stand/shrowd and the headlight brackets--it tipped over 100 lbs so there is signifigant weight to save using a modern aluminum radiator-and i wont be getting corrosion in the water jacket using an old radiator.

Hmmm , well looks like if I dont hurry--im not going to be the first to put a merc diesel in one of these trucks, about 6 mos back a super clean one fron Pueblo Co sold on ebay for the paltry sum of $3000--and was exported to Merry ole Elgland---like so many others i had spied, the new owner contacts me about intrests /or parts. I do a newsletter for the hardcore GMC guys. This guy said he's putting a 6 cyl with an automatiic out of a "Saloon" in his and making a transporter out of it. sorry about the upside down giant pic--i aint a digital dude!
