size & thread pitch of 722.3 test ports?

I've been chasing quick shift & 3-4 flare on my 84SD. It also goes harder into D and R than it should.

Vacuum leaks are repaired. VCV idles at 11", drops to 0 under acceleration and is within specs (~6" at 10mm movement).

From what I understand, the next step is to adjust the modulator. I have a gauge & fuel line and am wondering if someone knows the size & thread pitch of the test port. I've read and need to confirm that port diameter is 12MM on a 722.3. I may jack it up & look but the jack & stands are loaned out.

Also, have I obviously missed anything?

It's the same size as the ALDA line banjo bolts. On occasion, I have just "borrowed" an ALDA hollow bolt for the transmission port. And used an ALDA flex line for the gauge.

Check the bowden cable and all the linkage too.

Hard into D or R indicates high idle.

Does your modulator hold vacuum? Have you measured the operation of the VCV with a T piece with the vacuum line connected to the modulator?

Modulator holds vacuum. VCV goes from 11" to 0" and is ~ 6" with a 10mm spacer on the stop.

I read or perhaps say on youtube that idle modulator pressure is good approximation of driving pressure.

Old bowden was broken. New bowden has been adjusted out in increments. It is shifting later but still sometimes quick.

On a tangent, I haven't measured boost but did clean boost bolt on back of manifold.

You can use the idle modulation pressure for a primary setting of the modulator. Then you drive around (from memory: at a specific speed, full load and no vacuum to the modulator) for the precise measurement. Adjust modulator if needed.

Adjust the bowden cable and the linkage according to specs. It is described in the FSM, section 30.

Turbo boost should not influence the transmission, unless you have a vacuum transducer (blue flying saucer).

It shifts pretty well now. I couldn't find my pressure gauge to measure pressures so just turned it down in increments. 2 stops counter clockwise has it pretty smooth.

VCV range is 11 at idle down to 0.

I stayed on side streets but manually leaving the tranny in 2nd, the turbo boosts to 8# & the car moves pretty well. The rack damper bolt is a new one and a slight tightening took most of the shake out.

Tomorrow, on to the diesel Ram brakes & rusty floorboard (POR).
