What Will Be The W116 Of The Future?

Funny how we all drive these old cars about on a daily basis. My W116 is 35 years old and I drive it like a new car. So, I was thinking, what will MBZ guys be building up in 35 years from now????

I would have said the w140 but it seems to me that, notwithstanding the fact that there's now decent DIY knowhow on them (or so I hear), they seem to have fizzled out in terms of long-term interest. Though there was a time that described the w116 too.

I am really not sure the w220, nice as it is, will be a long-term proposition. Or any really recent model, for that matter.

Years from now there may well be no older cars on the road. Period. Sort of like the situation in Japan now, where long-term car ownership is made as unattractive as possible.

I would love to see MBZ issue a re-make of the W116 450SEL 6.9, where the body shared similar lines, but with modern electronics.

of course, I couldn't afford one until it was 35 years old...

It already seems to be going that route!
