How long have you had this car and what were the (tranny) service claims of the PO?

Yeesh!
what is all that stuff? just burnt clutches, or is it motor oil ingestion? I've never seen such a mess inside an auto trans...

That is burned up clutch material. The fluid was red the day before. I'm sure it burned up on the 40 miles from Yonkers to Bellmore. The filter was not torn when removed- it was "disassembled" to show the crap in it. No PO records BTW- but I do not think they did much to any system.

First owner must have figured it was one of those "lifetime" fill transmissions.

I will take this as a friendly reminder that I have never seen my transmission filter and never changed the fluid... Has anybody ever noticed a transmission start to flare when the climate blower motor is running?

You should have seen the one I took out of my 99E320- Literally full of metal... And the start of the great trans saga of 2011... 3 Transmissions later including 2 full rebuilds and I finally have the car back on the road (after finally just getting the car on a lift and doing it myself) Turned out that a bulk of the issue I was having from the new trans was from a bad shifter that would cause the trans to not want to shift gears. Was a real headache. I do happen to have 2 extra transmissions now...
