I would be interested in the exterior mirrors. My zip is 91801. If the mirrors are in great condition I can offer $65 plus shipping for the pair.

I just had a boom-a-rang sell a few weeks ago on an 83 model year ,this mug didnt want to pay for towing and I was at my bottom dollar. The next buyer was much better at manners AND THE CAR SEEMED TO LIKE HIM because it made a big improvement with him behind the wheel .The back story is the little 300cd was never shifting its final 3rd and 4 th gear ,even after endless tinkering with other threads to find its secret.Today after working a timeline out we decided instead of the $100. tow I would lead the way 14 miles to the distination of the mechanic shop with him following in the little 300cd .As the trip was underway at 25mph I notice him mid trip pull up behind me closer then fall back ,again ,and again .Upon arrival he said it shifted and was back to normal during the drive . I gave him the title and said "evidently the car likes you more".I kept my word and he kept the keys .The car can finally go to a good just home were it will be back in a garage .Another fine ending .

Aside from the $$$ and scarcity of the coupe specific parts, they are great.

Assuming you start with a good example and don't need to buy a bunch of replacement parts.

Just roll the front & rear windows down and open the sunroof, and its as close as you'll get to a convertible.

I've had my 83 since 04, totally rust free CA car. A couple of wks ago looked at a 300CE (89) had a 91 yrs ago & thought it might be nice to go back to a gasser but just couldn't due it!. I really prefer the CD! Haven't driven it much in the last several yrs, but after sitting for a long time the Wife & I jumped in it & drove it to the Portland Swap Meet (about 500 miles round trip) & it just ran beautifully. I don't know of any other car I've ever owned that has been more dependable & starts always on the 1st crank! Now I've decided to have a high end paint job done, this is all she needs to be almost perfect. I just noticed today on fleabay an 83 blk on blk 56k miles with 40 bids to over 35K, wow! it is a beautiful car, you might check it out if for no other reason than for an inspiration! I'd buy it if I had a spare 35+K just laying around!

One issue on the 123 coupe (if you like perfect cars). On the driver's side the rubber moulding at the bottom edge of the bright quarter window moulding, the leading edge of the rubber always breaks off. The entire moulding is about $800 new and is a real pain to replace. Even the 35K Ebay car has the moulding broken off. I am lucky to own a 1982 CD coupe that is pristine and low mileage. It is light ivory in color with leather Palomino.

You have to love a happy ending, especially knowing it went to another enthusiast who will garage it.

How right you are, on multiple levels! I started with a poor example and then spent years going through it and replacing this and that, sometimes with help from other gearheads & enthusiasts. My car still looks rougher than I'd like, but in due time everything on it will be addressed, including the cosmetics. I have a 78, the first year of production. Has its own little quirks that were ironed out on later years models. Pretty sure mine has 3:46.1 rear gear ratio. It absolutely winds out on the freeway, and doesnt like sustained high rpm operation as it heats up the engine past normal acceptable limits. The "naturally exasperated" NA OM617 grinds out a staggering 77 horsepower in this iteration. Still, the car doesnt feel underpowered as much as it just feels leisurely in its acceleration attempts. It is very fun to drive, and handles the twisties better than you think it might. No matter how hard I push it, it rarely gets less than 27 MPG. I have learned a lot about diesel engines, old Mercedes, & hard to find parts because of this car. I also have a 300 SD that i bought later, after getting the "Mercedes bug". It will briskly out accelerate the smaller, lighter CD and is capable of cruising for hours literally at triple digit speeds without missing a beat. I love that car too, but the little CD is my "go to" vehicle for the majority of the time due to the fact that it's just engaging to drive.

Well this car was parted out I found out later ,he pulled the motor ,got it replugged into another 300cd ,at least it wasnt put into a jeep. The motor was a flawless near perfect compression example.

Typically modified near classic cars immediately decline in value. So, is a clean cd likely to increase in value? And if sacrifical, what modifications have been most cost effective?

I am planning to buy one Sunday. Am also buying a spare 126 for its engine and trans. Later I will put a MT on it. Longer term project on a car that has no rust and an ok paint job. Very dusty from storage in a concrete floored building in low humidity. May need some new sponge for the seats. Let you know after I buy it.
