Wish I was in a position to buy the Commander. I have a 5.0 Ford engine without a home and that would be lovely. Or maybe trade the 5.0 for a Packard V8 and install THAT! but I'm still paying for the parts I put into Mutt the S-10.

There are cheap commanders still out there.

The Hyman dealership in St' Louis has a (not cheap) 37 coupe express and a 37 president coupe for sale. You ought to take a gander at that president especially.

I looked on their site. The two mentioned are BEAUTIFUL but several thousand tads above my limit (which currently is zero). But we do have Powerball tickets for the next several drawing so in the near future money should be no issue.

Tom - Got a clutch disc weight for you.

New Centerforce 10 1/2 inch is 4.8 lbs. This is the type with segmented friction pads on 1 side and full diameter friction material on the other.

Probably a TON bigger than the Lotus will use, though.

I don't know what you guys have in mind for the Lotus clutch but I can recommend the Centerforce. They make them for pretty much everything and if yours isn't in the catalog call them as they'll build to fit as needed. I didn't know that when I did the clutch behind the 617 and I'll go that way if I need a replacement down the road. I have a Sachs in it now.

I'm prolly going to replace just the disc. Its a stock looking thing of no brand. I'd try for a similar one in a good brand name hopefully it will be lighter as well.....I was thinking of Sachs.

I delivered the 39 commander parts car yesterday.

Started out before daylight and just got back at 1030 pm. Would have been here about three hours earlier if I had not gotten lost three or four times. Yikes! First I took 31 instead of 131, then on the way back took 96w instead of 196. OH yeah, also explored the boonies near his farm for an hour or so. Beautiful country.

The poor overloaded truck did yeoman's work with 2000# in the bed and about 5000# in the trailer and car. Got 14.5 mpg going up driving about 67 when condiditons allowed, then got about 15.5 coming back driving about 63 to 77 depending on whether interstate or two lanes.

I had every thing lashed down pretty well but those darned front fenders (3 of them) squirmed around so I had to tighten straps every half hour or so. Even with that when I got there there were two hanging loose.

Yikes!

Didn't lose anything that I know of.

Yikes Tom, with a record like that... I suggest you stop and top off the tank every chance you get.....and have some in a can to boot....
Have you considered taking along what is called a ' navigator ' ?

Try the people at Tennessee Clutch located in Nashville. They may be able to build what you want. One of the people local to me bought a clutch for his 24V Cummins and was happy.

Would attaching a mechanism to the manual shutoff to use as an everyday shutoff on my 39 Studebaker truck work without causing trouble long term?
