Try a 'lost fender' ad at the Craigslist sites along your route.

Best of luck, Tom, this will be a long adventure but ought to be really (mostly!)fun. I hope you see fit to share each chapter, and it will not be TOO long before it is over.

One time I asked my dad how come he called his 1939 Studebaker Commander "Suzy"?

Not then knowing that Germans are typically regarded as humorless, I still remember what he said:

"Oh I don't know. I thought it was funny."

So - If the "spirit" of old Suzy still exists, and maybe it is there! I will seek her blessing in your having an easy, pleasant and not too long road to the resto, beginning with finding the elusive missing or replacement fender.

Things discovered about the 39....
1. The 617 turbo will not clear the stock tie rods with the front oil sump. So that means either a different motor, or a different front crossmember plus steering.
2. The roof above the windshield needs some repair, so that is why I got the front portion of a roof.
3. First task is to get some tires on it that hold air. I missed some chevy truck wheels and tires today for a good price.
4. I think I will unload the boxes and do an inventory of parts that I have, so I can see what I don't have...hopefully.

Sidemount was standard on the pickup but a $4 delete if you didn't want it. Limos and Hearses also often had the fender mounted spares, sometimes on both sides. I think the CE looks good with or without the fender spare.

I just had to take a picture of the incredible rear springs and overloads on the Studey. this farmer was intent on being able to carry some serious weight, now!

There are 7 basic springs, a spacer and four overload springs. A fellow I spoke to today said there were four leafs from the factory!
