Just did my valve adjustment and something happened!

Hey all,
Well, I finally did my first valve adjustment. The car runs very well but the transmission went all funky. Before the adjustment it shifted smoothly, if somewhat softly. Now, it shifts hard, and when braking to a stop, it clunks into 3rd, or 2nd, or whatever it's downshifts to. What happened??? I double checked all the linkage and vacuum lines and everything looks right. The only real vacuum thing I disconnected was one of the lines from the connector on top of the valve cover. I had to pull out the brownish line that goes to near the EGR (not to the EGR, just near). I was an idiot and didn't write down which hole it was supposed to go to so I connected it to the to left hole in the rubber connector. Is this right?

I kind of like the harder shifts but the clunk while slowing down is not a very pleasant feel or sound. Thank you if you can help with this.

Alex

I'm sure whatever you did has to do with the vacuum switch on to of the valve cover. You might have to look at someone elses car to see how they go or just try another possibility. Try to remember...use the force...I will look at mine later on and see how it is. Make sure all of the other vacuum lines are connected. You might have pulled something off you weren't aware of.

I have had the bowden cable jump over the little stop when doing a valve adjustment before. Easy not to notice and makes for some strange shifting. I had way to early upshifts and clunks downshifting
