Smile Question regarding Front Bumper

Hi all,

I have an '85 300D and I am trying to identify the Front Bumper on it. I recently got a front License plate bracket and then determined that it would not install.

My bumper has 10 bolts underneath that attach the chrome to the bumper or so it appears. My bumper does not have the 2 required holds to allow the Bracket to be installed.

Does anyone know if this bumper could be some kind of aftermarket bumper ?

I have looked and I see NO ID numbers on the bottom of this bumper.

Thanks for your help if you can.

I just pulled the bumper on my car yesterday. I only took out six nuts. Does yours have a pair of shocks? could it be a euro bumper?

Euro front bumpers only have one nut onto each end of the chassis rails, ie-- two in total.

Never seen one on a 300D. It looks like it came from an older model. The rubber bumper is thicker. It doesnt look like mine.

Looks a bit like mine, but those large 'rivet-heads' on the underside and the shape is somewhat different...

One from a Euro W114 maybe....?

Really , until I saw the bolts on the bottom and the missing holes it looks like the 300D's I have seen sitting next to it. How thick is the rubber bumper on yours ?

It looks like a standard US front bumper to me but the lack of holes for the license plate bracket are puzzling. Does it have a p/n on the underside you can find?

The part where it has some sort of paper residue behind the license plate should have the original MB part number stamped on to the metal.

Can you check if the rivets do anything? Do they hold anything inside the bumper? How does your license plate attach to the bumper?

As for bumper thickness, here's mine for comparison - I think it's the right size, just weird why there is no hole for the bracket to mount on.
