Have you mounted in a vacuum/boost gauge?
 
I would like to put one in my car. Where would be a good spot?

To "T" in at the ALDA; you want have to cut any of the Stock Tubing that way.

I don't know about a good place for the Gauge itself.

Is that the round device near the back of the injection pump, that has a covered adjuster on it and a vacuum line coming out of a banjo?

Now to find an enclosure for the gauge and develop a location for it.

I bought a boost gauge about 7 years ago. Still on shelf. Car runs well so no drive to get it installed. Especially since there is no good place for the gauge.

I did the ashtray thing on my SL. But that was mainly for the AFR gauge which is useful.

I considered doing the ashtray setup (very nice work Jeremy) but I had just swapped in the 92 ash tray from the 190e and its got a much nicer action than the 87 plus its handy for storing quarters. Instead I drilled a 1.5" hole in the switch panel where it had 2 blank spots and installed a 15psi fuel pressure gauge ($8 ebay) to act as a boost gauge. Works beautifully. The only down side is that it tends to vibrate and make a buzzing sound. The solution was to add a cheap fuel filter in line with the hose which dampens the vibrations for the most part. I still get a slight buzz from the gauge at 12psi which is handy at night since the gauge is not lit.

I had done some research and noticed that there were some inexpensive pressure gauges and thought why not.

I like the mounting location of yours, more in the line of sight.

I have a voltmeter and a boost gauge in my 300SD where the ash tray was. From left to right its voltmeter, 12V outlet, Boost :D

My SL is D-Jet. In order to do any kind of tuning, they need a way of analyzing exhaust for %CO. (AFR can be translated to %CO). That is why I installed it initially. It uses a wide band O2 sensor.

I set it more for performance than economy, but with the gauge it is easy to try different settings for both idle and load mixture (different controls)

Those engines sometimes have a hot start problem. The gauge shows that up clearly - mixture goes way lean after car has been sitting hot for a short while. Enriching idle mixture helps overcome that.

square boost pressure Gauge, velcro anywhere, size of a keychain remote. Digital boost pressure gauges in a square package will read boost pressure in PSI. Turbocharger boost gauges in a square package. - Square boost pressure gauge, velcro anywhere,

Maybe there is cheap Chinese version ;)

By the way - the fuel pressure gauge on my SL could be used as a boost gauge, esp if one with a smaller range could be bought. It has an electronic transducer so that only wires have to be brought into cabin. A must with gasoline!

Stuck a digital read-out one up near the mirror, roof mount. It's lies flat between the mirror and roof. Where you'd imagine a radar detector going.

I like it because it has a bright blue LED alarm that shows for over-pressure. Since I removed all the overboost protection vacuum crap from the engine, and I've added a manual wastegate controller that can dial up boost to my pleasure. It's nice to know when I hit more than one bar boost, and dial it back a bit... because this engine with the stock IP can never use more boost than that!

I was under the impression that one of the reasons that diesels ran efficiently (besides their high compression ratio) was that they ran very lean air to fuel ratios when cruising. To make more power at a given rpm you put in more fuel.

I don't know about a digital unit. I don't mind a digital display for time but for something that can change fast I think that mechanical and analog will be the way I will go. I want it to be illuminated and fairly small and cheap. I have seen some on ebay.

D-jet = gasoline.
