Door Moulding

The molding on the driver's door came off, so I ordered some new red clips for it. Question is, how do you remove the old red clips from the black portion. I'd like to avoid breaking the black mounts if at all possible. I've tried snipping at them with some cutters and razor blade, but that is not working very well.
Any tips?

Thanks
John

Did you try prying them off with a straight screwdriver?

Put a drop of motor oil on each one. Then, with a pair of dykes, pry them off. Position the dykes at the bottom edge of the moulding, not the top. Do this in a clean area, as they will tend to fly. If the grommets are still in good shape, you can reuse them. Install them in the body, not the moulding. A little grease will ease assembly and future disassembly.

Back when I didn't have a nifty clawed trim tool to pry those off, I just heated them a little with a hair dryer and popped them off with two screw drivers on either side. Grit and grime from age can sure anchor those little berries in place quite well, but they will come off. The trim is much stronger than they are.

Answer

Carefully cut them off with a razor/exacto knife, and replace them with new.

I did order the new red ones. Hope those are the right ones..
Forgot I have some interior pry tools! Was trying screw drivers and pliers, wasn't going that well.

So... Once I get the old ones off, do I put the new red ones on, then just pop the trim back on the door?

Thanks everyone!

Red pieces in the holes on the door, then the trim snaps into the red pieces. If I'm remembering right.

Correct.
They go into the body panel, then the trim strip snaps in.

The clips are tough to push in. I used a wood dowel to push them in until I heard the snap of them seating in all the way.

Indeed they are! The first time I tried was in 50 degree weather, and they just didn't want to go in. Once I started keeping them in my pocket as I worked, instead of a baggie on the roof, they started going in much easier. I tapped them in with a 3/8" socket extension and a rubber mallet.

Did them this way with the handle of a hammer. Looks great other than I probably boogered up some of the edges on the trim, trying to get the old ones off. Oh well. Not that noticeable.
Thanks everyone.
