1977 240d engine transplant into 1980 240d problem
The motor will not turn off using key or using the emergency engine kill under the hood. Finally ran out of fuel so Im ok now
Any ideas on what might be going on?

You could have a few things going on here.
With the engine running, check the fuel shut off actuator with a Mity-Vac to see if it will shut down the engine. It could have a ruptured Diaphram, if so, you will see oil come up the vac tube. Use clear tubing, so you don`t get oil into the mity-vac. or suck on the tubing will also work. Is the rod on the back side of the IP adjusted correctly. when you push on the shut off lever, it may not be pulling the rod up far enough to shut off the fuel. Did the old engine shut off ok, and is a problem with this new engine? Charlie

You don't have to run the car out of fuel to shut it down. Just take off the air cleaner and using a block of wood (never your hand) cover the intake to cut off the air supply.

Snap some photos of the injection pump side of the engine....
Something is most likely up with the linkages.....the 77 used a completely different set up for linkages then the post 80s.....1980 year w123 used some very strange and rare linkage parts.... I would also assume the vacuum line for the shut off isn't connected... The 77 also used a different vacuum pump setup then the 80....it used a diaghram pump which are known to tare and the 80s used a piston pump...

Dont think it is the linkage keeping it from turning off, it maybe need of some tweaking. After talking to a local Benz Doctor, sounds like most if not all are the vacuum lines not being connected. He told me there were two brown vac lines coming out of fire wall on the '80. One went straight to the injector and the other would connect to the black hose that went to the vac pump. There would also be two yellows that were for ac or locks (cant remember) but I should pluc them off, I did so with some bolts. I connected the brown tube to the hose that runs to the vac pump. I almost froze to death trying to get car started so I came back in the house. There are two other plastic hoses he did not ID one is green the other I think I iD'd as going to the cruise control.
1st pic is before my routing. 2nd pic is after This is what I am trying to get on the road Am I on the right track??????

The two yellow lines are for the central locks, but you are missing a check valve.....the green is for the climate control, black cruise control and brown for the shut off valve.....

The two Browns 1)is plugged into the rear of the Injector pump. 2) is plugged into the T on the Vacuum pump line. Hope this does it, I'm ready to move on to the brakes.

Note that the 2 brown hoses are not interchangeable. Per my previous post on the subject. Note the car in that post is a W124 but the W123 shut down works exactly the same.

I am thinking I have the vacuum lines correct now, but still wont shut down using key. Thinking vacumn Diaphram must be busted. Unless yall can think of something else. Engine also is idling very high adjusted linkage not much releif. depressing stop lever still does not kill engine. Thus my thinking diaphram must be torn. Thanks so much for all of your help. I need my car running

If you suck on the line that comes out the IP (well it is mounted on the governor actually) does the engine stop?

Adjust the linkage from the injection pump to the stop lever, so there is a 5-6mm gap between the ball of the rod and the ball on the stop lever when removed and holding the stop lever down...

I did this before the prefilter fiasco. would not kill engine by depressing Stop lever. Choke's the motor down but will not kill it.
