Really thinking about not getting the engine. $600 for it all is a good chunk of change (so is $2k for one as well). As well as the fabricating and parts I would need to get it to work in my 300D.

I'll stop by the yard tomorrow and check it out again and take my time and give it a proper going over before making my final decision. If anything I could always just sell it.

that and I will sleep on it. No need to be impulsive... $600 could go a long way for my '87

I'm so on the fence about getting it.

To put in nuetral, the trans shifter has a few cables going to it. One to the brake pedal and one to the ignition switch. find where those cables go to on the shifter and jsut move the linkage connected to those cables.

I'll be ok with that. I get it or I don't. Either way my next car will be OM606 powered.

Thanks. I found a source for a new OE engine pan for $82.00 but can't find the other pan online anywhere.

I'd love to have a 606 turbo in either my '95 or '96 to replace the rather anemic NA engine. I'd have the mostly-mechanical '95 IP rebuilt to provide the additional fuel needed for the turbo engine. Remove all of the electronics. Find a 722.3 transmission to handle the higher power.

Another option is to get the 5-speed transmission along with the engine and swap them in together. You would need all of the electronics so engine and tranny will talk to each other. (I suspect this will be a pretty big job.)

Do the swap very quietly and, since there's no annual inspection in California, just "forget" to tell DMV. ('98-up diesels must now be smogged in California.)
