The OM601 has a giant flywheel weight in the back that the diesel torque converter fits inside of. I am guessing the larger om60x do not have this. The 617 doesn't either...

If it went together then its not an issue. I mean the gas M102 torque converter is way too big, there'd be no chance it'd fit. No worries, I am sure yours is fine.

I checked engine rotation... it did rotate so I guess I'm clear. I was worried there for a moment that the guys who installed the 2 may have forced things to mate. hehe

The 603 has a rather large flywheel incorporated into the flexplate, but the 606 is much closer to what we normally understand to be a basic flexplate design

My 602 has that 603 flywheel... but the TC from the m104, which has that 606 flywheel fit with no problems.

Your 606 came with a 722.4 trans, while the 606 associated with that flexplate was mated to a 722.6 trans--1999 E300D

Looking through chapter 27-001 it looks as though for the 722.3 transmissions at least there was a "petrol engine governor" and a "diesel engine governor" for these transmissions.

As I said before I'll post up some evidence of this at some point or other once the dust here settles...

The diesel and gas transmissions used different vacuum modulators too, probably to compensate for the different vacuum signals (from the VCV vs. from the intake manifold). There is some difference in oil pressures too.
