I have a 1986 300 SDL with 280,000 miles, and it has a drain on the battery. I used the information here on the forum to identify the troubled fuse circuits causing the drain. I have been successful in identifying it. The total drain was 11-12 milli - amps. On fuse #14 accounted for about 10 milliamps and fuse number #2 for 2 - milliamps. I do not have the printed card that identifies which items are controlled but which fuse. Can someone tell me what these fuses operate? OR could someone also send me a listing of the fuse layout?

Any other suggestions related to these circuits would be helpful. I've temporally removed the identified fuses.

This level of current is insufficient to drain a properly functioning battery in less than two weeks.

The general level of acceptability for current "leaks" is 50 milliamps. If you are below that value, you don't have an issue.

That being said, if the battery is well below par, you might not make it more than a couple of days.

Here is the update guys.....

I checked out the fuse issue and it appears to be the #14 and 2 fuses. I removed them both and have no more of a drain. The questions I now have is that the #14 fuse controls the (Left) High Beam. I was told it is probably a stuck relay. Once I took the fuse out, the fog lights will now work. I believe that this confirms the high beam issue.

What is the a part number for both the "L & R" High Beam Relay? Where is it located? I need to identify it to replace it. The #2 fuse controls the hazard lights, front roof light, clock, electronic radio, vanity mirror, and the electric illumination control. THe dome light at the sunroof isn't working, So I kind of suspect it first.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Yes, that's on fuse 2.

When I did the check on the milliamps, #14 was the one with about 9-10 milliamps. The fuse #2 was between 1-2 milliamps. I have since replaced the battery yesterday. I knew the old one was in it when I purchased the car.

14 does provide power for the LF high beam. However, 10 milliamps isn't really a concern. It might be leaking via a connector or via the external lamp monitoring unit.

How do I check that? Where is that located? Remember that I mentioned that the fog lights did not work until i removed the two fuses. Now the fog lights work.
