Here's another suggestion, which may meet with some disagreement. Do you still have the original spacer? If so, measure the end play you have now. Then, disassemble the rear axle and measure the difference in length between the old spacer and the new one. If the difference is the same as your end play, install the old spacer and put it back together. If the difference is less, you can crush the old spacer a little more. If it's more, you're stuck with what you have, as the old spacer is already too short.

I got er did! I went and bought some longer bolts and was able to get better torque on the hub, and got it down to where it's supposed to be. Thanks for the info guys. I did bend the end of the bar clamp pipe though.

Maybe a Mr. T type photo of me "bending" the bar! I'll get a pic of the bar just for you. I still have to do the other side, and now that I know what I'm doing I'll snap some pics of the process a long the way for future folks.

Here you go Army. The bend actually ended up helping by giving me more angles to work with to get those last little turns out.
