Rear squeak on 300TD

Just picked up my 3rd Mercedes - a 1987 300TD wagon. While checking it out today I noticed if I push down at the rear of car it produces a squeak. The car produces the same noise when I go over bumps.

I don't see any leaks in the SLS system or anything else - visual inspection seems ok.

What should I look at first? How do I isolate the squeak? Was thinking of having someone push down on the car while I take a hose and place it to my ear and look for the source of the noise.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

-John

Possibly the anti-sway bar bushings. You can sqirt them with water, don't use WD40 as it might rot the rubber.
Does the car stay straight when you go over a bump? The 124 chassis has a bunch of rear control arms that tend to wear out and cause instability. And a couple of big bushings on the rear that wear out, if you have the service history it would help identify which may have already been replaced.
My bet its a worn bushing but shocks have been known to make noises when they get old also. Lots of things in the back end to check out, sorry its not possible to put an exacting reply on this kind of thing.

I got the chance to sqirt the bushings with water like you suggested and I found the one that seems to be the issue.

It's the passenger side rear. With the wheel off - it's the bushing off the main support that comes off the wheel hub at twelve o'clock. From the wheel hub - coming off at the top at twelve o'clock the support arm goes to a bushing that is making noise.

How hard is it to replace this one - anyone know? Anyone know how to track down the correct bushing replacement part?

If it is not worn perhaps silicone spray might shut it up. It will not attack rubber.

I have nothing to add to this conversation except to say that my 87 300td has the exact same squeak.

The noise is starting to drive me batty.

Hope to look into this more now that the weather is better.
