Summer= no AC...now Winter = no heat!
Blower motor on my 1995 E300D works great but there is no heated air coming out, This was a bit dangerous yesterday when I couldn't get the frost to defrost.
I find it easier to drive when I can see through the front and rear windshields, but maybe that's just me. Any ideas out there? |
verify if coolant is flowing into the heater area under the windshield. there is a duovalve near the battery, and an aux pump near the brake booster... verify both are running, and that'll narrow the issues.

Location, location, location
The '95 E300D has a combined monovalve and aux pump; the combined unit is next to the battery.

thanks guys! Thank you for the detailed/photo answers...I need that.
I just called the parts dept and the price of that unit is $600 USA. OUCH!!! looks as if it's time for a pick and pull gamble. |
first try tapping on that valve with a small hammer, it may free up if its stuck - when I bought my car the valve was stuck and was solved by tapping it. Its a regular style MB valve - I dont recall where I saw a rebuild kit for it - maybe the german W124 forum or the UK one but they fixed it with such a kit.
I have seen BMWs with similar valves but dont know if they are the same. That twin assembly is unique to the 1995 E300D, both parts share one base. The single elbow pipe on the side of the valve was cracked on mine so I had to resort to "plastic JB weld with some fiberglas threads to repair it, holding up excellent till now, but have not yet found a dead housing base assembly to rebuild mine with. The pump can be rebuilt too - if you are dexterous with small tools, the carbon brushes are the items that wear out. |
The base is unique/common but it may be possible to replace, for example, just the monovalve by taking apart a new one and moving just the solenoid valve assembly. Ditto the pump, if it's not possible to rebuild yours. OTOH, it may simply be clogged. Disassemble and inspect before spending all that $$$.
