Help: 85 Coupe driver's window won't close!
Well today when I power up the windows, it gets to about 2 inches from the top and then I hear a disengaging sound like the gear clicks off and tries to re-engage and continues to click off and the window doesn't close. Anyone with experience on this matter? Thanks.

Sounds like a broken regulator. Maybe a helper pulling up on the window while you hit the switch will get it up.
Those regulators are expensive and made from pot metal. '82 240D: Replace Manual Window Regulator Passenger Front? See post #2.

New Regulators at one site were $550+ each.
The Rear Window Regulators on My 84 300D are made of the Pot Metal. That Metal bends and then the teeth on the Regulator Gear wear out at a bad angle. I don't know if it is possible to fix yours the same as I did one of mine as yours is different. Extreme Window Regulator Repair Extreme Rear Window Regulator Repair,123 - PeachParts Mercedes ShopForum I was able to straighten out and repair one but while I could have straightend out the Left Rear it would have done no good because the Teeth were too badly worn. I had to buy a new one at $150 (since then the price has shot up to $250 each).

Still Polking around I found a site that sells Dorman and Replacement compay Manual Window Regulators.
If cost is the issue it might be Cheaper to buy Manual Window Regulators and pay Merceds for the Window Cranks/Handles. I forgot to comment that on the rear I replaced that had the Bad Teeth the Teeth could likely have been built up with Welding but I did not know what shape the original teeth looked like and it would have been a trial and error pain to get the teeth cut correctly. But if it meant not having to pay $500 I maight have done that.

You may be able to do the same without removing the Regulator.

I gather that the Coupe models have a different window regulator than the sedans because the door is longer?

Easy to find out. Go to your favorite Auto Part Seller that has nice pictures and look up the parts for both and compare the Part Numbers and the Pictures.

Thanks for the part numbers. I played around with it today. I think it is an adjustment issue as I can pull it up while holding the up button. The up and down motion is too tight somewhere, slowing to a crawl as it approaches the top.

What I found was that the Motor Gear was hard Metal and the Regulator Teeth were soft metal. When the Frame bent it put the Regulator teetn on an angle and they proceeded to wear badly like that.
As you said you will not know until you see it.

Yep, the teeth on the regulator are worn down. Does the 300SD with the longer doors have the same part number? Just fishing...
