Installed my Tweak boost gauge.

Got my boost gauge installed. It boosts up to about 9 psi (.6 bar) from 2800 on up. The manual says that it should read 10 to 12 psi (.7-.8 bar) at 4000, Maybe I have a leak as others have mentioned in other threads or maybe it has always been that way.

The mounting plate is held in with some industrial velcro. My gauge came with it for 9 dollars including shipping. I don't have the light hooked up yet. but the bulb and circuit are included.

I have fixed the egr leakage and it boosts up a lot faster. I didn't get a chance to test the gauge before I got the egr working, actually blocked. The egr was leaking continuously.

I hooked it into the manifold. Used a standard 1/8 pipe thread. It is almost perfect for a 10x1 thread.

Perhaps I should put a cable tie on tubing. The inside of my manifold is full of black swill. Hopefully that will gradually clear out now that the EGR is not pouring crap into the intake.

9 psi (.6 bar) from 2700 on up. It starts boosting at 5 in about half a second then builds to 9.

Next step is to adjust valves. as I got a set of bent valve wrenches given to me.

Yes,

Most of the 617's I tested had 2-5 psi!!!!!

So, 9psi means you are not that far off the mark!!!!

E-mail me and I will send you a short quick-time video that shows my boost gauge swinging up to 10 psi @ 1/2 throttle in 4th gear. That's what I like to see, because that's where you drive it. It will swing up to 14.5 @ WOT, but its part-throttle where you need the boost!!!!!

Thanks it moves pretty quick. I'll try and get a video of my boost gauge in action. I don't think it moves to full as fast as yours does.

Hard to understand how come many cars you have tested only have 2-5 psi. Due to poor maintenance?

Dr Bert
Does higher boost at the same throttle opening give you more economy. It would be a leaner mixture.

My seat of the pants testing has shown the opposite to be true. Less boost = better MPG. But that me be due to my driving style

My thoughts are 20+ year old wastegate springs that are weak, HUGE leaks between the adapter cone and the turbo/intake, etc...

I have never tested it. I have always set my boost per the FSM, checked at WOT in second speed range, and under those conditions, my car will put out 14.2 to 14.7 lbs.

At moderate throttle, the gauge is always on 10-12 psi, even at 65-70 mph.

The ALDA prevents supplemental fuel until boost pressure develops...

Do you guy's using boost gauges, use an external boost controller to get the boost where you want it?
