Emergency Brake Shoes on 95 E300D
Is there a trick to replacing the brake shoes??? I gave up when the little pin fell out of the leveraging mechanism! Seriously, after replacing both flex-disks, axle shafts, center carrier and all exhaust hangers I thought that I might as well replace the rear rotors, pads and shoes, how hard could that be?...that was a mistake! Any suggestions on how to proceed?
Thanks in advance |

get a cheap 1/4 inch blade screw driver and cut a slot in it approximately 1mm.
try again. it's a pain, but it's not impossible. I plan to make a DIY on the subject soon...

Thanks, The problem I have is getting the little dowel pin back in place, the one that holds the parking brake cable end onto the lever of the actuating arm, it's about an 8mm long X 4mm pin. It fell out easy enough but when the mechanism is in place there is, or seems to be no space to install it. I'm thinking of magnetizing it and trying again tomorrow, as if I have a choice.
The good news is that after installing all the flex-discs (Lemforder), center support (OEM) and MBZ axle shafts I ran the car up to a pretty good speed when elevated and there was no visible vibration of the drive shaft nor did I feel any vibration. I took out the URO pieces of sxxt axles and per sbaert's suggestion (on another forum, both of you guys have been very helpful and really know your stuff!) I installed two used axles with acceptable boots, switching sides left side to right side etc... If I can get the shoes installed I will test drive it and see if the URO axles were the cause of the vibration, the flex-discs were done and car was driven prior to the URO axles replacement and there was still severe vibration, as if anyone needed another reason to NEVER USE ANY PARTS FROM URO!!!!!!! I don't care if they were free, it's just not worth it even for use on a temporary basis while locating some good quality boots for my original leaking axles. Thanks for the help. |
