300D preferred water pump brand

My water pump is making that noise we all sooo love to hear. At least that is better than a seal just blowing.

Anyway, the obvious two part question is :
What brands are preferred?
What brands are not ?

Oddly in about 5 years of reading the Forums I have not seen a thread on a preferred Water Pump.
So I am curious to see what the answer is also.

Also they don't seem to fail often.

For My 84 300D:
2 of the Internet Part Sellers lists LASO as an OEM Part but I don't know if that is true.

Bosch....Pep Boys often has them in stock.

Graf is good, at least 7 yrs ago when I had the 300D's replaced. Still OK, knock on wood.

For my C280, the water pump was going south almost at 2 yr intervals.(low mileage)
Last one I had replaced with a GRAF about 7 mos. ago.
We'll see how that holds out.

The Mercedes pump is about $400 for the C280.

Mercedes used to accept your old OEM pump as core and sell refurbished Merc pumps.

Probly not anymore... ???

I wonder if BARS leak tabs heavy duty, helps lubricate better to sustain life of bearing, esp. for the C280??

Both Laso and Graf makes excellent pumps. I wouldn't hesitate to use them.

Pep Boys is ~$33 plus a gasket. $6 to ship too and they are about 100 miles rt for me.

I will check the other two brands later. THANKS

It's the shaft seal that is being lubricated by the coolant, not the bearing.

Bearings are sealed for life...

I get daily shipments from SSF and the MBZ dealer. Prices are decent, but sometimes, you need a part on the weekend, such as when my water pump went out, and a Bosch from Pep Boys seemed like a good fix...

Graf looks to be priced starting at ~$60, spotted at least on report of a failure at under 4000 miles too....hmmmm.

Laso appears to be about the same price. No failures noted

The Bosch description says the gasket is included:
"Gaskets and hardware are included to make for an accurate, easy installation"

yup the shaft seal. Thanks.

Which by the way is what you need to research the materials and construction of ,because some pump manufacturers differ.

Let Us what info you find on the.
If you get the Bosch one I would like to know where it is made.
It does look like it is cheaper to have it shipped to you.

The Bosch 96088 fits a huge number of our cars from 1968 to 1985 both diesel and gas models.

A couple months ago I got brand new Bosch water pump for my 420SEL from rock auto for $99 shipped. The box was genuine Bosch and said it was "brand new". It looked like the mating surface had been dragged across a rough concrete surface. There were several gouges I could get my finger nail into. My guess is that are popping of a conveyor belt into a bin and then moved around and jostled in there damaging them all to hell. Guess where it was made? China of course. I thought by going with a nice "trusted" brand I could not go wrong. Luckily I got a full refund and a store credit. I ended up going with one from orielly. It appeared 10x better then the Bosch unit plus came with a lifetime warranty. Just saying, beware of Bosch. It might be better to get a Bosch reman from Germany or something.
