Three-pin or four-pin?
I have to replace the turn signal relay/flasher relay on my 83 240D.
Pelican parts recommends two versions from Porsche sources but no info on how/why they are different: 000-821-10-63-M252 which is a four-pin and 000-821-10-63-A-INT which is a three-pin relay Since the Pelican info doesn't tell me how to distinguish one from the other, I'd like to know if anyone can tell me where this relay is located. I'll pull it over lunch and order one from somebody. Thanks |
The relay is under the shifter plate.
Remove the Ash Tray. Remove the two Phillip screws. Remove the Ash Tray frame. there is a plug on the left side of it for the Cigrette Lighter. Slide the cover back so the pin on the rear of the plate clears the hole. You might have to remove the plugs for the switches and remove the plate. The signal relay is forward of the shift lever. Not sure of the # of pins. Charlie |

Three Pin
I checked with the Flasher Relays I have, are all from W123`s, and all have three pins. Part# 000 821 09 63.
Edit: The above part# has been superseeded to 000 821 10 63, a 4 pin relay Charlie |

Got one to sell? BTW, after replacing all the affected 8A fuses and all the rear tail light bulbs, the rear lights work perfectly, including the turn signals, but the flasher does not flash. So I think it might be the flasher portion of the flasher and/or the switch. But the switch worked recently when I did the weekly function check. |
I have the same problem for my 83 300d w123
Fuse #1 is not blown but the turn signals flash too quickly. I would be interested in purchasing a relay if anyone has one lying around. |
I got one from phill that I did not need... I'll dig it up if someone needs it.

I up graded the part# in the above thread. the new relay is a 4 pin.
Check your Emergency Flasher switch, it could be dirty inside causing your problems. here is a couple threads about that. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/146430-turnsignal-relay.html Post#5 Billy Bob explains about it. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/287446-w123-flasher-relay-capacitor-specs.html I have a couple extras, PM me if interested. I'm not sure if the W126 is the same scenario but there are 3 and 4 pin flasher relays for them as well. While testing for a flasher problem (turned out to be the turn signal stalk) I swapped in a 4 pin relay for my 3 pin relay. The 4 pin relay worked the same as the 3 pin relay, even though the 4th pin was not used. My problem was intermittent, so I was able to observe the relay function for a short amount of time.
