Holy Crap: Tool price increase!!
I just got off the phone with BAUM tools regarding ordering one of these
(GSXR's photo) They have it listed for... $273.50..... What the frak???!!! I have one but its currently on my OM603 from the factory so I just left it in place. I might have to pull the darn pump again and get the tool out if no one has it for a decent price. Samstagsales.com also has it listed for $275. I could have swore this tool was around $10-$15 a year ago. Mercedes Benz of South Orlando can get it in for $278.00 plus shipping. At least I can swap out fans and fan clutches with the one from my 606 and see how that works compared to my currently dead fan clutch. Again, damn Last edited by TheDon; 11-29-2012 at 12:58 PM. |

Sounds as if it's time for you to get your creative juices flowing. I'm sure you can make or come up with SOMEthing.
Best of luck with it.

Does your engine not have 500 timing marks? I never bothered with any holding tools, I just lined everything up when I put it back together.

It's stamped metal spot welded together. It could be fabricated for less if I had the skills and know how.
But I have a spare vacuum pump gasket and my 603 had it pre installed so I'll just remove it. |

Even if you had to start with smelting the iron ore, you could make a profit at that price.

I wonder if there has been a price misteak somewhere in the supply chain? That price for what it is is ludicrous. Unless its primary market is full time mechanics and snap on has conditioned them well enough to lets say very substantial prices.

I took one of those off my OM601 when I was replacing the vac pump (new pump instructions say to get rid of it).....I think I might have recycled it! I will have to check....
Edit: I think its a goner. Oh well.

Good News! Pelican only wants $141 for the tool.
601-589-05-14-00-MBZ Mercedes-Benz Genuine Part- This is a special-order, non-returnable, Mercedes-Benz part (availability and shipping charges may vary). $141.00 Seems like the price is high enough now that they have pretty well guarenteed that no one is going to buy one unless it is part of a Business expense.

Way of the times I supose. Just got the months visa statement in the mail today. Atrocious amount for what is on it.
The only single expensive item in a relative fashion is a bladder well tank and fittings. Fuel for the last month seems to be the predominate item. Pay it all off each and every month but it is getting signifigant in monthly total dollars to what it once was overall. This card gives us signifigant air miles so I like using it. |

Prices were fairly steady rising a little bit till about 2.5 years ago. After that time the price rise has been steeper.
I bought a New Power Window Rear Window Regulator for $125 the same item is now $225 the last time I looked and may even be higher Now. That is a big jump in the Price. Apparently instead of having Money in the Bank at a tiny +interest rate I should buy and Store Auto Parts till the cost goes up and re-sell them at the higher price.

My left headlight was out last night, went to O`Rilleys today for a new sealed beam. $25+ those took a hike too, then I haven`t bought any in a long time. hello PNP.
How about the Vacuum Fuel Shut off valve? around $170. seems like i saw them for $35 a while back. thanks to PNP, I now have 6. Think they are trying to price us out of these old cars. If that is the case, they sure are not going to price me into a new one anytime soon. That is crazy almost $300 for a piece of tin. I can get the MB tool for pulling the Pre-Chambers from the dealer in Monterey for $265, and it a much more substantial tool than this thing. Charlie
