My 1982 300SD got pulled over by the highway patrol specifically to dip the tank...
I was driving, and he pulled out of a speed trap like area, and pulled me over, and dipped my tank.
nice and green by the way... nuttin but #2 for me so far!

also around here, BP has taken over all the amaco stations, and their SILVER and GOLD plus and regular have different colored hoses... the diesel is still black at those stations. and the regular is green...

I hope I never get pulled over for a dipping. Even if I am running straight D2, I am going to jail. I would most likely mouth off the to the patrolman and when the DOT gets there, I would give them a speech about government control and probable cause. I doubt not that I would be in jail. See, I am a nice guy all day long until someone peeves me off and then I become the most unpleasant person you want to be around. The way I see it, they have no constitutional right to detain me, inspect my vehicle and waste my time just because I drive a Diesel powered vehicle. Same goes for anyone else. What is the difference of that and a police state?

Stop by your local commercial fueling station, the contents are on the pump. IIRC, the red stuff became ULSD for January 2011.

I'm still puzzled as to how I ended up purchasing completely clear diesel fuel. What would happen to a person who was dipped and the fuel came up clear?

You had better hope they don't suspect you of being a "terrorist". Their authority to detain you without cause goes up by an order of magnitude if they go down that path.

There is no difference between the US and a police state if you're in the "terrorist" group. Getting into that group is easy...........all they need is some BS suspicion.

me either

X2

I asked the question a couple of years ago , If anyone had firsthand knowledge of being dipped and fined for using dyed fuel. did not get any positive responses , it was always someone who knew someones uncle or brother kind of thing.
It stands to reason that refiners would not want to duplicate processes to produce two different characteristic sulphur concentrations, when legislation was clearly headed towards low sulphur. Cheers

Take a laptop to your new home?

Actually between your fuel reciept and the service station being contacted by the enforcer. If the station pulls a sample of fuel and it is clear chances you are going to be on your way. I thought it was fuel that was dyed that was the issue at least here. May be detectale just by someone looking at the primary clear plastic fuel filter.

X2, Yeah, I hear you on that one.

Ever look at this?
Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!

What I have seen out here on the west coast, all the Diesel pumps have the Green covers on the fuel handles. Does that mean I have gone Green?

I know the reason the Govt will stick it to you for burning Red Diesel while driving on the Hwy. they do not get their road tax per gallon, and or sales tax etc...

Why then do they turn a blind eye towards the users of SVO, WVO, WMO, an or any other concotion of fuels used. they are loosing out on their precious Taxes.
those that run electric cars do not pay their fair share and or do the Hybrids with their elec/gas engine/motor. the vehicles that get less milage, pay more per mile in road use tax.

So, if they dipped my tank and it came back black, they most likely wouldn't do anything? I thought there were means to pay road tax on alternative fuels made at home. I have heard mention of this on other forums. If someone was so inclined, they could pay a road tax on the fuel they make and theoretically be completely legal? It sounds similar to the kind of tax you would voluntarily pay if your grandma gave you a few grand for your birthday.

Very good point about the electric cars. If the government wants to charge a road tax for gasoline and Diesel, they should require electric vehicle owners to put in a separate meter, that is checked monthly and inspect that the owner is using the energy for the car and tax them on that. Hybrid owners should have to have the PCM flashed so it reports the number of miles traveled on electric energy and taxed for it every year; recording the data during emissions inspections.
