Glow light comes on after relay turns off G plugs

I have verified this with volt meter. When relay is heating the glow plugs (verified by voltage at glow plugs) light in dash is off. When relay cuts voltage to GP -- light comes on for apx 20 sec. Starts good. GP relay or ????

92 300d 2.5 Turbo Diesel Had it for 5 years, this just started. Have searched the forum a bunch but didn't find same problem.
Thank You

You Car as near as I can tell also has the Afterglow feature. In the Manual it did not say if the Glow Plug Light went on during the Afterglow function.
See Pic.

If you want go to the Diesel Giant Website and follow the Glow Plug Repair pictoral and see if a bad Plug or 2 shows up.

Sometimes a light after glowing is an indication of a problem in the glowplug system such as a plug being out. There was something like that in my 116 if I recall correctly.

I did a search on "glow plug light flashes".
PeachParts Search

This is a topic that comes up now and then. my own 240 has done this since we got it almost 3 yrs ago. always starts everytime and no stimbling even when cold. I replaced the GP`s with new Bosch and still does it, Oh Well.

Have you tested resistance on all plugs?

Generally it is a symptom of one or more failed glow plug.
On rare ocasions it is a failing relay.

Yes, the GP Light seems to have a mind if its own.
As long as the Engine has no symptoms of bad Glow Plugs or killing a Battery the GP light does not mean so much.

The Last time I had GP Light issues (during the Pre-glow cycle) it turned out to be a cracked Fuse that worked sometimes and sometimes not.

There was another Member who had the Screws Loose that on the Strip Fuse and the Light did funny stuff.

I`ll swap in another fuse to see if it changes anything. this engine is incredable the way it starts though, turn on key, count 1-2-3 bam it starts, no hesatation, stumbling, rough running, smoke etc.... even when it gets down to 40 or even in winter into the 30`s. and the spedo shows 345K miles.
the light just flashes now and then, so use to it now don`t pay much attention to it. we`ll see what the fuse dose.

No need to swap it. If you look close the crack will be visible; if there is one.
