A wreck ending the life of a nice 83 300cd.Lesson to tell.
Just happened today ,83 300cd with just over 78k miles ,makes me sick.Idiot comes on the frwy comes straight into the second lane were Im cruising along ,I see him heading for the side of my passenger door ,I swerve loss control and cross traffic hitting the center median at 50 mph still braking hard,the car crashed hard enough to crunch the frt bumper, blown tire ,frt suspention took a hit ,the car absorb what it was design to do and Im greatful that this was the outcome,couldnt say that about a compact car .The lesson is if someone wants to come into your lane,honk then brace yourself and let them hit you.The citiation was given to me for unsafe lane change even though I told the 911 operator and officer who and what was the cause.As I sat in my car the person who entered my lane was pulled off to the side of the frwy, he or she sat their until cops showed up then sped away ,even as I explained to the officer the driver was taking off he didnt seemed to be concerned.Another car was also involved which gave the same description of the scene,this is one bad day.

A slimilar thing happend to My Best Friend except that He tapped another Car trying to get away.
He got a Ticket for reckless driving. Because He never hit the Vehicle that was cutting Him off they got away unoticed and unhurt. You were not hurt and have a great story to tell.

Main thing is, you are in once piece.
Some police forces insist their officers lay at least one charge anytime they get called to an accident. It can get stupid in some cases. Even worse, here the local large municipal force has senior traffic guys review each report and they actually sometimes instruct the investigating constable to lay further charges afterwards. I am very sorry about the car. Once you are feeling more yourself you should look over it again. Not to be stupid, not having seen it etc., but from your description it sounds fixable.

I was coming back from the bap geon parts store with filters and fluid to change and then this ,Ill have to deal with it.I really feel like Im a safe driver at all times ,let people pull in frt and all that jazz.Still it can happen ,this has changed my habits behind the wheel ,I cant count the times Ive avoided small intersection mishaps ,usually teenagers ,but now Ill get hit before avoiding, it seems to be what the law wants you to do so Illl follow along.
All in all it will be rebuilt ,just wrinkles of metal to work out along with a few odds and ends. |

Sadly, you are correct...........today it's damn near impossible to cover the base of every DB that has to get there two minutes ahead of you.
I spend 100% of my time now reading the DB's. They emit some DB brainwaves that will tell you what they are going to do about two seconds before they do it. Their vehicle actually moves in the direction they are going to go without them realizing it. So, you've got an extra two seconds if you're paying strict attention. The alternative is obvious...........my condolences. |

I agree with BC. The DBs are predictable if you know the signs.
Im usually the one going five over on a two lane with a line of DBs weaving in my mirror. I tell my daughter to drive like everyone else is insane. iPhone 4 |

Sorry to see this. Lost my first car in a similar situation, but was avoiding a car that slammed on his brakes. I wish you luck in sorting this, as for me it is finally starting to be resolved after three years. I was recommended also to take a driving class, but still trying to find the time when I also have the money, plus did forget until now... Now I just don't drive in the rain.
In the end, things are replaceable, but people are not... Maybe in a week you might be able to do a re-examination and post pictures. Seems these folks might be better able to help then the adjuster. |

First and foremost, I'm glad no one was injured.
Second, hindsight is *always* 20/20; you have no idea what might have happened had he collided with you, some part might have broken off his car and lodged under yours, tearing a fuel line, catapulting you or him, fire, horrific crash, who knows? Third, I agree with the idea of a performance driving school. That makes it easier for you to avoid the MM (myriad morons) while retaining control of your car. Fourth: regardless whether you have the witness' contact information, get the police report. See if the officer put in what you told him about the other vehicle, and if you have the other witness information then definitely fight the ticket. Go to court and explain it to the judge, most often they will be far more sympathetic than the guy with the badge. Good luck with getting it fixed properly and back on the road. That's too young to write off. |

I'm always on the lookout for DB's on the road, they're becoming easier to spot, and frighteningly more frequent too.
Even if somebody is halfway behind me getting into my lane, I'd move my car to avoid them. Sorry to hear what happened, but like the rest I'm glad you're okay. Your 300CD must have tight steering to be able to swerve like that!
