Will power steering fluid work in the sls?

My indie seems to have put power steering fluid in my sls. Will that be ok?

NO. Flush it out and put fresh Pentosin or equivalent in there!

Those are all approved for the SLS?

The thing is I actually have a jug of the mercedes brand sls fluid somewhere around here, I just never thought about them needing it.

Doh!

I'm not an expert on TD needs but its the list if approved MB, SLS fluids I got here when I got my TD a couple years ago. What I understand is that it must be mineral oil based.

Just get the Mercedes ZH-M fluid from a dealer, you don't need that much, around 2 litres I think total, then you'll know you've got the right stuff in there and can forget about it for years.
It's expensive from MB, I don't know about in the 'States but here in old Europe you can get the same stuff in a Febi bottle for around half the price you pay from the dealer.

Some people say you can only use the Merc ZH-M in these systems, others say a similar mineral fluid like Citroen LH-M will be fine.

Years ago I had a catastrophic break in a line from the SLS reservoir in my 500E.
Far from home etc ( where I had a supply of MB SLS fluid ) anyway as I crawled from under my car an old diesel benz pulled up and the driver got out to see what was up. He listened then walked to his trunk and pulled out Castrol ( ?) mineral based Hyd fluid that he used in his benz and in his Jaguar. He said he had used it for years and that it was cheaper in price than the MB stuff but not cheaper quality. Also it can usually be found at lots of Auto parts stores ( make sure it is mineral based ) Any way I cleaned the busted hose and wrapped with 3M electrical tape and then finished off with duct tape. Drove home with nary a problem ( 3 hour drive ) Oh by the way Murphy's law applied..... of the 2 hoses at the resevoir the one that busted was the pricier one of the 2.

oh, by the by the way...

most sls hose is rebuildable with standard hose, and some wrenches... MB shipped the car with rebuildable ends up until late 87 or so...

Good story. I have been able to help a few folks out with their BMs but never encountered one broke down on the side of the road. I carry lots of spare parts and tools so I might be able to help.

I think Ive read here or over on the other forum, someone comes into an SLS discussion and says he's been running "regular old hydraulic oil, same as the tractor, for years" I'm wondering what the long term effects of using a non mineral based oil are.

Would this wrong fluid make the ride bouncy?
