1995 E class diesel wagon?

I did not realize MB offered these in 95. Has anyone ever heard of one?

The link is not working. Found it by the listing number.

A bit pricey but, I want one.

"One of a kind"?

That is a really odd intake vent in the fender as well. Never seen one line that before.

Perhaps in Europe? I would agree, never heard of such an animal either.

the diesel was offered in all years of 124 production... outside the US.
I've seen Japan 95 TD's for sale.
this one says it's from CA ... likely, it means canada.

Everything shown in the photos indicates it is an original USA car.

the washer bottle heater is disconnected... it's the only thing I can find to indicate a possible repower.
also odd is the placement of the diesel insignia... and the owners manual that says diesel is for a sedan

This is originally a E320 wagon - a diesel VIN of a W124 model should have WDBEB, a WDBEA = W124 with a gas engine.

the second giveaway is the speedo, any W124 with OM606.910 engine does not have a 160 mph speedo. Of course you all know that MB never would use a fender vent like that.

to further confirm you can use the russian decoder if you wish but the 4th placement of the VIN is pretty obvious

If the dude won't be honest about a repower, who knows what else he's hiding. I would be hesitant even if the price was right.

Well, ok... if the price was right...

Every time I see a nice W124 RWD wagon, I think how awesome it'd be to throw a 603 or 606 in it. The problem isn't finding a good chassis. Very nice '93-'95 W124 wagons are cheap (a few are offered in the area for ~ $3k). The problem is sourcing a good 603 or 606.

How about mating that to a 5-speed? NOW we're talking

The fender vent was standard on the 201 and the 124 for all diesel models from about 1992 or 1993 through 1995. My '95 E300 diesel sedan has that vent, it's the intake for engine air. The last diesel station wagon imported into the USA was the 1987 300D Turbo. The subject car could be a non-US model privately imported or a re-engined E320.

your car has that plastic vent? pic?
MB louvered the fender, and the louvered fender is a rare piece of metal...
I've got one, but what don't I have... this guy likely got a wrecked 95D and stuffed all that diesel goodness in there.
I hope they swapped the diff, as the E320 had a 2.65 rear, and it'll be a bit slow on takeoff without the shorter diff the NA Diesel came with...

Poop, I shooda looked at the pictures first! My '95 has a vent in the right front fender but it isn't painted black, it's the same color as the rest of the fender (white in my case). Do we know that the thing in the pictures of the subject car is actually black plastic? or is it just black-painted metal?

The fender air intake first shows up (in my manual collection, anyway) in the W201.128 model with the OM602 5-cylinder turbodiesel engine as of (probably) 1990 (Service Manual, Diesel Engines 602, 603 [published 1991] section 09-400 Removal and installation of air cleaner, turbodiesel). Model 124.128 with OM602.962 engine may not have gotten the fender slots until the next year. AFAIK no gasoline-engined models had air intake slots in the fender.

Jeremy
