electrial smoke in the cabin 124 87TD

... I'm working on a refrigerator, and the little woman calls me frantic about an electrical smoke smell in the car.
I told her to turn off the climate control and she said the smoke stopped.
my guess is the aux pump seized and melted the climate control center.
I'll pull it all apart tomorrow...
blower was still blowing when she smelled the smell... and the blower is outside the car, so unlikely to be the source of the smoke anyway...
and I've got SOOOOOO much time on my hands, JUST what I need...

Possible but not likely in the 124. They fixed the PBU burn out problem famous in the 123s when they went to the 124.

The 124 PBUs have over current protection built in to protect against faults in the aux pump or mono valve. The protection self resets.

The only times this has happened to me, the source of the smoke was under the hood (two separate experiences with the 30A climate control fuse melting its holder and setting leaves/brake booster vac line on fire) and being pulled into the cabin via the fan, rather than the actual fire being in the cabin with me. Check that out also.

thanks guys. I'll dig into it in the daylight tomorrow morning... assuming the car makes it home... I told her keep the heat off until I've looked the car over.

OK.
the car is home, and it has no climate control at all.
no blower
no power seat adjustment
no blown fuses...
The rush is now on to ready her replacement car... until I get time to fix this for me...
she hates this car... she wants hers back. the one I've not had time to go through and change the GP's the ball joints, the diff mounts, the driver's side ram, the DV seals, and I'm sure a few other things while I'm in there...
ugh.
I need a week off...
