Two New 123s!!

Last year, I went on a search for a decent W123 diesel, and I just couldn't locate one, so I eventually settled for a 1996 E300, which I love, but I continued to search, and then all of the sudden there were two!!

Mid-November, I spotted a 1985 300TD on craigslist, and it was cheap enough to take a look. It need the driver door replaced, and it had some little mechanical issues, but it was in overall decent shape, and I was able to talk the guy down from $1800 to $1000! I've had just about everything done, and she runs like a top!! Just gotta find that driver door, odd that so many of these wagons (and sedans) are white, but I can't seem to find a white door in the SoCal area, other than the high-priced ones at salvage yards. The door works and seals, so it's not an urgent issue, I will most likely wait to find a decently priced white one.

My other find was more recent, and whole lot nicer!! Last weekend, I spotted a sweet Inca Red Metallic 1980 300CD, also on craigslist. It was listed for $1500, and so I figured it was a non-runner, at best, but the body and interior was good so I checked it out. It actually did run, pretty well, and the guy had been told it needed a vacuum pump, so that's why he was dumping it. I didn't experience any shifting or braking issues, but it wouldn't shut off. I took it to my awesome mechanic, and he diagnosed it as a bad diesel cutoff, for around $300, rather than the bad vac pump, upwards of $1000!! I am now in the coupe for less than $2000, and she's a sweetheart!

Anyone in the SoCal area with info about a white driver door, or good salvage yards, please let me know!

~David

Congrats on the cars.

For the white door, put a 'want to buy' (WTB) ad in the Mercedes Used Parts For Sale and Wanted subforum. I have had great success with locating stuff that way.

you know that ANY 123 door will fit right? (well, a coupe door won't...) it does not have to be from a wagon.
