Vid of my 602 with open turbo...

The sound has a bit more treble than usual because of the camera mic... it's an underwater cam... you can hear the turbo WHINE though.

Towards the end the vid shows oil creeping up the turbo. 2:30 + mark

Does the oil from the turbo look like it could be a problem?

the oil appears to be just standard blowby from the valve cover... I'd not worry about that small amount.

But the breather hose is disconnected... could the turbo have sucked the gasses from the disconnected hose... it is pointed towards the turbo, i may have overlooked that possibility.

Let me begin by saying I am in no way a turbo expert, OK with that out of the way

Since the oil only seems to appear after some high rpm's of the turbo and the valve cover is disconnected my hunch is the oil is coming from the turbo cooling lines. Perhaps your return line has coking (dried oil that's become solid - think of an old EGR valve) and that's causing a blockage resulting in oil being pushed out of the turbo and into the intake or perhaps both the intake and exhaust side of the turbo. Do you by chance have any blue smoke coming out the tailpipe? The journal bearing and sealing rings in a turbo are like a cam seal or a rear main seal are not designed to seal fluid under any real pressure, so it leaks into the exhaust and / or boost side of the turbo.

As far as I can tell there is no apparent blue smoke at the exhaust. I still don't have a pipe to connect the turbo to the intake... will monitor oil consumption once it's connected.

Depending on the hours and rpm's between oil changes you may never notice any loss of oil.

You originally asked "Does the oil from the turbo look like it could be a problem ". That's hard to say but if it was my car (after you get that pipe) each time the oil was changed I'd look inside the intake for oil build up. That gives you a way to monitor what's going on and decide if its a problem or not.

PS: You don't have to remove the intake, just remove one of the plugs on the left side and look in. A fiber optic camera would be great if you happen to have one handy

My 87 300TD used to have a very WET intake tract, not gunked up, , not moist...but wet with oil...
I do not know how a healthy engine's intake tract should look like.
