HELP! Transmission questions
 
WIll the transmission from a 80 300SD (W116) fit into a later SD (W126) IF not would it be hard to modify to fit?

W126 cars have an inductive speedo cable (no driven gear). The W116 transmission won't take the W126 speedo cable (or will but won't drive it). You can swap tail housings, but there's a little more to it than that.

well I just bought a new transmission about 300 miles ago for $2400 and I am probally going to buy a newer 300 SD now because my engine blew up and the body isnt too great on the old 116. and if I get one with a trans that goes bad I want to know how hard its gonna be to make it fit.

NEW tranny from MB or rebuilt tranny? Rebuilt should only be around $1000.

its rebuilt, and they put in a new driveshaft - all bushings and mounts . . . so that was most the cost
