About 25 years ago I was chairman of a municipal utility We had two OP 8 1/8" engines that we were getting rebuilt so we took a tour of the Fairbanks Morse facility in Beloit. Our engines had 8 1/8" bores and 10" strokes if memory serves me. The 24 pistons came together in the middle of each cylinder where the fuel was injected.

Ours were old enough that they had parallel turbo and superchargers with a switchover circuit. We had them converted to series operation.

After financial discussions at F&M they took us on an executive tour of their manufacturing facility. The most impressive engine was the v20 pielstick. They had a precision 200 foot long 30' high milling machine to finish the blocks. The mains in the cranks were as big around as you could reach.
