Yeah. That is definitely better than a new trans. I just had to replace the trans on my 87td. I wonder if diff went out do to lack of oil? Did it have a leak? Mine is leaking a bit. I'm going to check my diff oil level this weekend.
That said, I have a driveshaft and diff on my 87td parts car. If you can't find one closer. Also make sure to get new bushings in diff while it's out. I have the special press tool to push in new bushings. Parts are like 5.00 but it's hours labor to get diff out to press them in. Good luck.
