Misguided people have been known to use ether as a glow substitute for extended periods on tight motors with totally inop glow systems. Questionable whether this would work on a motor that likely has compression issues from misuse of WVO.

I must have misread the thread earlier. I have been working on the assumption that the entire glow aspect had been checked and done with.

I have my doubts. Someone wrote earlier that ether should fire with 22:1 compression without glows (I think) but since we suspect compression is low, I suspect it would not fire without an electric ignition source for the ether.

well damn it the compression testers threads are like 1mm smaller then what I need.

Anyways I stuck all 5 new glow plugs in and there was no change. I think my battery is getting weak so I need to recharge it. But I am going to say that I am pretty sure the rings are bad....after letting it sit with the oil, my cloud of smoke has been changed to a puff of smoke. so I believe the oil did a job of sealing the rings a bit. there's a little video at the link.

You can definitely hear it firing on one pot. Try this, take a jumper cable and power the plugs manually while your cranking it and see if it catches (may require two people).

Can you post a pic of your installation of the new pencil style glow plugs?

Also have you rechecked the valve clearances?

yeh it started to fire after the oil treatment. Have tried that already at least 3 times..

I don't want to open it up again, in that last 3 months I've done 3 adjustments on it, then when it didn't want to start, I checked them again and that was about a week ago

I can post a pic of the glows, but they are installed correctly no ground wire attached...copper wire between each plug, no resistor wires....wire from the fuse connected to the plug closets to the firewall..fuse not cracked...removed fuse...relay clicks..glow plug light lights up and stays on for 30 sec....cycled glows 4 times..

Cranking speed in the video is low. Is this after the battery started getting weak?

Engine is turning too slow to start. That puffing seems inordinate.

If your going to charge it over night I'd be tempted to throw some more solvent in the cylinder till tomorrow. Couldn't hurt at this point.

You know it's possible to start these cars with a push or a pull since the transmission has a rear pump. If you absolutely want to get it going, I'd try tow starting it. Get it up to about 35 or 40mph on a tow with the transmission in neutral, glow the plugs, then drop it into 2nd. You might get it turning fast enough to start.
I'm not sure what good it would do to get it running this way, but I suppose you could simply keep the car running forever until you decided to sell or scrap it. You would have usable transportation.
