Question dasboard gauges

I have on my 300SD 1981,Turbo some peculiar readings during my last two years of driving, which I tried to live with it,to check it and so on.My water temp.gauge after cold start goes to the top, showing over 120 degrees C.After the coolant is warm then it goes to show the proper temperature around 90 degrees C and stays there until I stop. Then it starts the same.Is it the sensor,or cable or contact?
Similarly I am sometimes loosing tachometer,(showing the rotations). Is that again a lazy sensor, cable or contacts? Other gauges seems to work OK(oil pressure, odometer, fuel tank).

Don't know about the temp. guage but the tachometer is probably the relay on the drivers side fender wall. About 2" tall and cylindrical. There is a way to wedge a cigarette butt under the plastic casing, search this website and you shall find...
