once

I once parked really close to someone who was straddling the line like that.....but it was at the end of the row and there weren't any other parking spots in the lot. I put my passenger side about 2 inches away from their passenger side. If she (yes, I know it was a she) had parked within the line, then I could have too and not been sticking out in the aisle.

I left a note on my windshield explaining why I had parked the way I did.....just in case the traffic MPs came by to write me a ticket and her car was gone.

I heard about the incident the next day, but no one knew who owned that car that was parked next to her red corvette.

I probably shouldn't have parked over the line, I get that. If the lot was packed tight I wouldn't dream of taking up more than one spot. At the time I parked and left it was 3/4 empty with about 15 empty spots from me to the divider and then another 5 to the next car (this is "super wall-mart" sized parking lot). I'm the guy that takes the lone shopping cart in the middle of parking lot back to the front of the store, not the guy that intentionally takes up 2 spots in a tiny parking lot. Shoot, I hold the door people!

The message I want to send you is this; anytime you straddle parking lot lineage - you are advertising and very much at-risk for being targeted for vandalizing. Add to the mix that it is a "Mercedes-Benz" (matters not which year/model) and your fancy wheels - and you've got a strong recipe for paint being keyed, etc. Park where and how you want to, but realize what you are doing when you park that way.

Message sincerely understood. It's still funny to me that I can go out of my way to protect one of the few things I actually own and come out to find that a big arse box van parked right next to me in nearly empty lot. Maybe he was a Mercedes guy and this was his "nod", or maybe he thought I was a tool and was trying to teach me something about parking etiquette. Either way I saw immediate humor in the situation and was trying to pass a laugh along to some fellow car enthusiasts.

notice that the fedex driver is NOT across the lines of the space he's in.

you have a HALF A SPACE free in that spot, no reason to report the fed ex driver.
now, IF you had been in the space next to his properly, you would have had zero room to open your door, but in the picture, you are double parked.
if it'd been me, I'd have parked my car AGAINST the island. this would have totally protected your passenger's side, and left MAXIMUM space on the driver's side for your car to open the door.
double parking is always an invitation to get your car messed with. you are lucky the fedex driver parked there. any would-be keyers will figure you were just giving him room!

lemme know if you want this thread deleted...

I didn't report driver. That'd be screwing with someone's livelihood.

Indeed, I hate parking next to someone who parked horribly. They always leave before I'm done with whatever I'm up to, leaving me looking the the ding dong that can't park!

Parking lines are merely suggestions for those who like extreme order.

I can't stand people who park over multiple spaces. I always park ultra close to them. I'd have parked so close to you a sheet of paper would have had friction between our mirrors.

Sure, the guy who takes two spots is an easy target...
But an empty lot??? That's taking it kind of personally don't you think?

I mean, maybe he was just being luxurious... or lazy??

Makes no difference to me unless I had to look for a spot.

Bet the Fed-Ex guy has had to look for a spot 5hitloads of times.....
