I think that you did a fine job! I definitely would have replaced the rear guide rod mounts though. Simple to replace with the LCA out. With those miles it wont be long before they start clunking.
That might explain the clunk I get in my w123....Looks like I will add them to my list. The rest of the front suspension is good.

Very Nice Job !!! When can i take my 240 D to ya

Thanks for reminding me of all the work I need to do on my car this spring. Mine needs the same work done. I have the same year and color combination, except in coupe form.

FYI, the official colors for 1980 are Champagne Metallic exterior and Sienna interior.

Did the 240 today

I had some time today and got all the parts together to do my 240. I did much of the same work as on the wagon, but had some different challenges with this one. Most of the noise from the front end I thought was coming from the control arm bushings (upper and lower):

but it was from a busted shock:

I had a hard time getting the UCA bolt to line up, so I used a large Zip Tie to hold the anti-sway bar inboard. This made it easy to get the bolt through the holes:

I also found out that I need to replace the motor mounts because the A/C compressor is very close to the camber adjusting bolt:

I went back and replaced the guide rod mounts and steering damper a couple days later. Now the ENTIRE front end is new.

Spare parts for rebuild available.

I have spare spindles, backing plates, spring plates, and other front end parts available for rebuilding/painting. I can send them to you to use to clean/rebuild/paint, and then you can send me back the old/dirty parts. That way there is less than a day down time for your car. I would only ask for the price of the postage to send you the parts. PM me if interested....Rich

This is a big, dangerous job. That spring compressor is incredibly stupid and extremely dangerous.

I have the official Klann unit.

My personal issue is not enough time...

Rollguy knows what he is doing, and surely ignores you Chicken Littles. I used a worse spring compressor since only 2 outside rods. Bought it years ago to do a strut. I put 2 chains thru the spring and keep shortening them one at a time, in case the spring jumps out. When used on my M-B, I only used it to compress the spring a bit when fixing a LCA pivot mount. I later bought an inner spring compressor which seems a quality brand (Blue Point?, forget), but it is slightly too large to fit down the little hole in the M-B spring mount. Perhaps I'll open those holes up slightly to fit.
