Anyone know where I can get 80amp fuse strip locally?
This is for my glow plug relay thing. I can't find it anywhere locally...like autozone or advanceautoparts... I think I need it asap. That is unless the fact that my glow light doesn't light up have nothing to do with the fact that it is actually heating up the chambers??
And would this be the equivalent piece? http://www.amazon.com/Install-Bay-MANL80-10-Mini-Fuse/dp/B004WK4TOW/ref=sr_1_4?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1358891702&sr=1-4&keywords=80amp+fuse

If your light isn't coming on at all the bulb could be bad or have a bad connection keeping the light from being able to come on. Might also try Napa if you have them in your neck of the woods. Or try a local German auto repair shop.

Thanks.. i'll try the local german auto shop.
Long story short. It was lighting up this AM when I was trying to start it. I'm wondering or suspect that I blew that fuse and now the light doesn't come on? Are these completely independent things? Regardless of the light, if I hear clicking, does that mean the glow plugs are trying to heat the chambers?

It is busted? In a pinch, I would use a copper wire to solder it back. The fuse is solder-able. The fuse would blow in the remaining section if it is over-amperage again so no harm done.

If it is busted thats an issue. Put a voltmeter on when doing the preglow and see if the battery voltage takes a good drop, like in the 10's. If so, your fuse is OK, but your bulk or something else isnt.

There are some other strip fuses available at chain auto stores which could be modified to use in a pinch.

Or, you could temporarily jump the terminals for the fuse.

Temporarily jump with a piece of wire... can this damage anything?

if you have a short you can/will melt the local area and potentially start a fire. 80A is no small current, so a small wire will either act like a fuse anyway, or will have substantial voltage drop, or will overheat and burn.

If you don't have a short and use the appropriately sized wire, temporary use wouldn't have any adverse side effects other than removing a safety feature from the system. I'd just jump it while glowing and remove it once the engine started.

Dont do this unless you want your car burning up but a quarter makes a perfect fuse deleter. Ive done that when I need to give someone a strip fuse and I have one back at home.
The fuse is solderable? Weird I thought it was Aluminum.

yes, the fuse will solder together, but it will NOT still have the same protection. I would use a jumper wire on aligator clips as a temp fuse to be used with the hood up and pull it when the car starts.
but FIRST, I'd get a meter and see if the fuse is passing power. the light is usually out due to a glow plug failure.

Really, can you explain why. The 1" fuse is shortened to 2 1/2" fuses and it will not blow at the SAME current?

Quote:
metal fuses fail by melting. and the ENTIRE fuse is the failure system, cutting it in half, and soldering it together will alter the fuse failure point. it'll still fail, just not at the same protection abilities as before.
