the sudden temperature change last night might have shrunken some O rings and caused the fuel system to drain itself back to the tank.

exactly what happened to me last winter.

mix a spray bottle of HD simple green and wash the pump - HD SG is not harmful to aluminum, remove the black plastic engine cover and expose the injectors then loosen the flare nuts, crank the engine and check if you see some fuel leaking, slowly you will see all fuel injectors leaking fuel, tighten them up and start the engine.

It will really tax your battery though, keep a charger handy and give breaks of 5 minutes between cranking.

Your injector return lines might be causing this - NAPA may have return line tubing - best to replace it every year as any pump diesel you will buy will have some bio in it - which eats the pipes.

There is a Viton kit for the 606 to replace all fuel system o-rings. worth looking into.

Yes, i am going to order the Viton O-rings from Jadavis. He just reply'ed and said that he can have them instock by monday. This way, the Bio in the diesel will not eat my lines every year or two.

Thanks for the info guys.

606 fuel system self bleeding

So I'm sure all us E300 people know the 60x engines have self bleeding fuel systems, so there is no need to "crack" injection lines. When ready, crank for 30 seconds, stop for 1 minute, crank again, wait again until the car starts.

And, you ordered or will order Viton fuel return line as well. Then later, you will think about Viton for the main fuel hoses connected to the metal lines by the tank and in the engine compartment.

How can I contact Jadavis to order Viton o rings and return line?

Secondly how easily should the throttle linkage move on these cars? Mine seems very stiff.

Lastly could others who have a 95 e300D let me know what their times are for their car. Mine seems like a dog!

1) 0-60 time
2) 20-60 time

It would help me gauge the condition of my engine. I had a 97 e300 a few years ago and that car would blow the doors in on this 95 and the only difference that I know of is the 97 has an electric tranny.

I assembled a viton O ring kit and instructions to change and sold a few on Ebay, it almost always had extra rings and a gift too.

Didnt get quite a good response for them.

I'll time my E300D - its rather rapid once it passes 2000 rpm - infact Ive timed it a bit quicker than a 2.5 5cyl turbo 300D. The engine will only respond when it revs high, if the trans is set to shift early the car will feel like a dog.

the factory time is about 12 seconds to 60 mph - I believe mine is that or very close to it.

if its dead, ensure that you have clean filters and a clean manifold too. The engine will not be able to rev quick if the manifold is gunked up.

This should be a separate thread about restoring 606 engine performance.

However:
Also check the wiring and vacuum lines going to the two resonance flaps on the intake manifold. If those do not work, the engine will not be happy. I've seen an E300 suffering from BWHS (biodegradable wiring harness syndrome) with insulation cracked off the wires to those two flaps, presumably from removing the intake manifold in the past. The wires shorted out, preventing the flaps from moving as required by the engine RPM of the moment. And of course, vacuum lines crack and leak from age and under hood high temperatures.

Take a look at the EGR flap function too.

Also, at some point, will the catalytic converter clog up with soot so much to impede performance?

My mercedes started leaking diesel almost immediately after I changed the injectors. Turns out it was just a random thing that happened One of the rubber elbows that goes from the tank to the fuel line decided to start leaking. Here: A good rear axle leak!

My understanding is that there is no catalytic converter on this car. Hey Zulifqar I would appreciate hearing what your times are> Im going to check out mine tomorrow.

I have replaced the injectors, remover intake manifold and cleaned out all gook. Put an algicide type of material in the tank to clean the filter, performed a purge with the product "Diesel Purge and changed all filters. Car is still so much slower than a 97 E300D I used to own.

Lastly if you have another viton kit let me know how much by Private message?

nope, they have cats. You need to make sure your accelerator linkage and bowden transmission cables are set correctly, they make a big difference to the performance of these cars. Disable your EGR too.

As someone said previously, they only 'come alive' over 2000rpm, and they like to rev. Mine is pretty lethargic off the line then once into 3rd gear and over 2k it starts to really move.

Ok today I timed my 1995 E300D from 0-60mph.

It is a lethargic 14.6 seconds. How does that compare to you guys?

crappy commute home

well i had a really wet stop and go commute home and was only able to get a 20-60 time, which was 11.73 seconds. I am sure i could get it down a little, as the tires slipped a little. when i attempted a 0-60 i just kept spinning the tires, and i lost my chance.
