91 W124 602 can I mod to a 617 ?
Hello,
faced with a new head for my 602 and wondered as a thought weather it would be worthwhile in the long run to mod it to a 617 engine in terms of durability and fuel mileage ? thanks |

The 602 is plenty durable, I'd fix it or swap in another 602. Putting in a 617 would be loads of work, the transmissions are not compatible, (starters on opposite sides) and the engine is taller.
I am sure it is "possible"....but not worth it. I considered the same thing for my W201 and cancelled the idea even though I had both an engine AND transmission. ended up swapping in a 601. How many miles on your 602 with a bad head? Was it overheated?
