Wondering how many diesel-only MB owners there are here, that have never owned an MB gasser?


I have personally owned two Mercedes-Benz' over the past 22 yrs., both of them diesel-powered.
'83 300SD - 305K
'99 E300TD - 129K

I have no plans to ever own an MB that is a gasser.

In our family, as a lad growing-up, we owned (3) diesel MBs '69 220D, '73 240D, '77 240D, over almost 30 years - no gassers.

I have only owned my current 240D and a 300D rust bucket I sold last year.

none in my past. i'm trying to get gasoline out of my life completely. the only gasoline use left is the wife's ford ranger.

i switched to a rechargeable mower a couple of years ago & i'm working on a turbodiesel hotrod.

All three are diesel. no gas. gonna keep it that way.

Never owned a Mercedes until this December, since the I've been surprised at how much
i like this (new to me) '83 sd. So gassers? no plans unless a 380sl falls into my lap that I can convert to Diesel.

My start with M-B cars was about 2 1/2 years ago with a rusty 1985 300D. I just bought a moderately-good 1986 300SDL.

However, I do want a gas M-B at some point because I want to try converting it to run on CNG. Unfortunately, all of the mechanical fuel-injected cars are pretty-much impossible; the CNG systems want electronic fuel injection. I've read a little about the mechanical fuel injection gas systems...OMG :eek:

There are TONS of 1980-1990s Bosch fuel injected cars for sale that are in very good shape that need a new fuel distributor...$2000! That makes people give up on these old cars.

I have only owned the '84 in the signature, and the only gasser I could remotely see myself buying is the 6.9 :P

Nine and counting with no gas cars and no plan to get one. Three Dodge diesels and never had a gasser.

I am only a year and a half into MB diesels but like them so far. I like the quality, econ, and reliability of these cars.

Got a 1984 300CD and just picked up a 1980 CD. I am honestly board with gass motors. Converting my truck to turbo diesel now.... Don't get me wrong gas motors are fun but diesel has my attention for now.

The MB's simply do not have enough appeal without the diesels. Being RWD gives them a niche in North America.

Only diesels... Don't think I'd buy a ga$$er...

Though I've seen two current e-class coupes over the last two days, and would buy one if it were diesel.

If buying gas, I'll take a BMW (have two) or I'd love an Audi S5. Actually an Audi 5-class coupe diesel would be awesome too...

There is just something about diesel and MB that belong together in my mind.

This. I'd like an E39 M5. Audi was tops in interior quality for a looong time too. A fast turbo quattro is pretty unforgettable.

Two 300D's, five gas (non-MB). Not a diesel fanatic, especially at $4.20/gal in CA. Maybe someday if bio-diesel gets cheap and gas real expensive I will drive with a smile. I bought a M-B because former co-workers raved about theirs. I now have 2 diesels because I bought the 2nd cheap for its engine to fix the 1st (failed at 330K) and ended up fixing it. One son gets to drive that, and I recently fixed the 1st. What I have seen of affordable M-B gassers turn me off. Most seem to have the Rube Golbergish Bosch Jetronic fuel system, with the swiveling plate in the air flow. People I knew with that on VW's were always fussing with it and paying big $$$.

So, I'm not quite sure how to answer the question... I've never driven a non-diesel Mercedes, but my daily driver is a 380SL with a 617 engine. I got the car with a blown engine, so the only time I have driven it is in its diesel configuration. But for a short period of time it was titled as a gasser and I obviously owned it, so maybe I did.

So if that qualifies, I guess I'm a member of the club and if not... oh well., I tried.
