w124 climate control goes full blast by itself???

Hi all.
Let's add another to the list of truly odd situations with the w124 climate control.

My system generally works flawlessly. I have noticed over the years an odd tendency for the climate control (blowers) to turn on full blast when first starting the car in the morning. They blast full for a moment and then turn off if the switch is in the off position. Everything works fine there after.

This situation also only occurs after a cold snap (weatherwise) never during warmer weather.

Normally, for the past several years I've paid little mind. Today on the otherhand, after another cold snap, the same thing happened on first start-up, except this time with a twist...it went into full heat mode.

Now mind you the heat was nice, kindda like, the Benz thought I could use it, nice feature, yet I did not command it

The control unit was in the off position, the temp wheel in Max Cool!? and yet I'm getting a hot blast and it didnt want to turn off no matter how much I fiddled with the controls.

Luckily a short trip to the store. On starting up the second time, no issues, the climate control was off, so it stayed off.

Any ideas of what might be causing this strange behavior?

The car is free of ghosts but cannot rule out gremlins
