I would look the same place I did back in 2013. That repair is still holding up. Pull the fuse and then check wire continuity with ground. Your issue will be with the wire that has continuity with ground.

You lost me after ‘pull the fuse’

I tested continuity between the drivers rear window switch and the console drivers switch and they all tested fine so I don’t think I have broken wires

Buy a Lisle test light at O'Reily's, Hook the alligator clamp of your test light to Battery +, probe the dash illumination circuit (dash fuse).

If the test light is lit, you have a short to ground on the dash illumination circuit, in other words wires are frayed/exposed and are in contact with metal (ground).

Try it out.

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

I did that but the tester lit up on most of the fuses.

I can’t access the whole electrical manual online to trace wire colors. For some schematics it says ‘Next Index’ but I can’t find that.

I gave bad advice, i'm sorry.

I don't think i'm up to such a task, i'll refrain from giving advice from today forward.

I wasn’t being critical, the results I got were not what I expected.

You have to open the pdf link to the ETF (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) with the Internet Explorer browser in order to access the hidden html content (like the 'Next Index') embedded in the pdf.

Doesn't seem to work on a mac. Years ago someone posted the second section but I can't remember where I saw it.

Run the program in Firefox. It obeys the switchover links to the various Indexes. Safari doesn't.

I tried Firefox yesterday and it didn't work. The page numbers were listed but I couldn't get to them.

I realized I bookmarked this and it takes me right there.

I'm starting to think my problem is with the ignition switch

I suspect the issue is worn insulation. If that is the case, switch continuity will still test fine. You are looking for continuity between wire and chassis ground or continuity between two wires. you will need to use the ohm's setting on your multimeter. Look anywhere that it reads less than full open circuit.

You were right. 3 of the 4 wires were severed. Continuity was showing fine on all the wires except the blue one which kept cutting in and out. I put my hand in the door and wiggled the wires near the jam to confirm.

I took off the B pillar and cut the wires up high, pulled out the seatbelt (changing it anyway) released the zip-ties and pulled it through. Wired up 4 new wires and it’s back the way it should be.
